Spring in Bloom: Floral Essential Oils & How to Use Them

Spring is the season of renewal, and there’s no better time to refresh your self-care and home rituals with the soft, vibrant beauty of floral essential oils. From skincare to mood-lifting blends, let's explore these botanical beauties.

What Makes a Floral Essential Oil?

Floral essential oils are typically steam-distilled from the flowers of aromatic plants found around the world from places like Bulgaria, France, Mandagascar, Egypt and India. These oils are known for their soft, sweet, floral forward and slightly herbaceous aroma profiles. They are typically the "heart" or middle notes of blends- we could say they have main character energy! Beyond their scent, floral oils are known for their emotional support as well as skin care benefits.  Try adding these oils into already loved skin care products (or make your own!), in the bath or shower, diffusing, and even for cleaning like adding to laundry detergent to experience the full benefits of these lovely oils.

Tips for Working with Floral Oils

  • Even though floral oils have some great skin benefits, they are still very concentrated and you should remember to still dilute them with a carrier oil before applying to skin.
  • Layer floral oils with citrus (like orange or bergamot), herbals (like rosemary or peppermint), or woodsy (like cedarwood or frankincense) for added depth to blends.
  • A little goes a long way as floral oils like geranium and ylang ylang are very potent, so start with fewer drops and build from there.
