The pathways to prison for women can be complex and heartbreaking — including domestic violence, sexual abuse, and substance use.

Ladies Empowerment & Action Program (LEAP) works to empower women who are incarcerated in Miami, Florida. Participants work with mentors to help them overcome their past and transition back to society with the skills needed to be successful. When LEAP graduates exit prison, they’re provided with a range of support including clothing, transportation, a cell phone, and job and housing resources, as well as extensive post-release social services.

LEAP will receive a $25,000 grant from the Aura Cacia Positive Change Project in 2023 to help 260 incarcerated women successfully overcome barriers from their past.
