Pawsperity

Pawsperity supports women—primarily single mothers—in the Kansas City metropolitan area to achieve economic stability, safe housing, and lasting independence. Through the nation’s only nonprofit dog grooming school of its kind, Pawsperity combines technical training with life skills education, wraparound support, and transitional housing to help families overcome systemic barriers and break cycles of poverty.
Founded in 2016, Pawsperity began with the vision of equipping women with skills that lead to sustainable careers while addressing the real-life obstacles that often prevent long-term success. Over the past decade, the organization has become a nationally recognized model for multi-generational workforce development, serving graduates who now earn family-sustaining wages, secure stable housing, and contribute to their communities as leaders and role models.
With funding from the Aura Cacia Positive Change Project, Pawsperity will provide women in Kansas City with their integrated programs: a seven-month grooming school with 820
hours of technical instruction and 92 hours of “Power Skills” training in financial literacy, parenting, and professional development; intensive case management addressing childcare, transportation, and healthcare; transitional housing for families in need; and post-graduation support to ensure lasting success. Participants gain hands-on experience at the on-site salon, preparing them for employment or business ownership, while receiving financial coaching and emergency assistance.
By combining technical training, holistic support, and safe housing, Pawsperity equips women and their children with stability, confidence, and opportunity. The ripple effects are profound: when mothers succeed, their children thrive, creating generational impact. This project helps families break cycles of poverty, strengthen their communities, and create lasting pathways to independence and self-sufficiency.
