Our sustainability report is a major scorecard of how successfully
we are implementing the values we are committed to—quality products,
reliable information, a family-friendly workplace, environmental stewardship,
and socially responsible business practices. This latest report provides a
close-up look at Frontier's efforts and results in regard to sustainability. In
it, you'll find detailed information on the entire range of our sustainability
program, including discussion of areas of particular challenge and our short-
and long-term goals. Here are some examples of initiatives you'll find
fully detailed in the report:
- New additions to our facilities are designed for energy efficiency, and
existing facilities are continually retrofitted to reduce our carbon footprint.
Daily operations are reviewed for ecological responsibility—from waste
management to using "green" cleaning products.
- We have implemented initiatives to reduce water usage and waste.
Low-flow water saving devices have been incorporated in our rest rooms, onsite
organic cafeteria and manufacturing areas. We were able to reduce total waste
in operations by 19.5% in 2009, primarily through tighter controls on raw
materials.
- We offset 100% of our electrical power usage through the purchase of
Green-e certified Renewable Energy Credits from Bonneville Environmental
Foundation.
- Our commitment to maximize the use of post consumer waste paper has
resulted in our using only 100% PCW paper for in-house copying and printing and
99.9% of all collateral materials.
- We offset the carbon generated from our order shipping, making us one
of the first distribution centers to provide 100% carbon-neutral shipping. Our
distribution also utilizes 100% post consumer waste recycled fiber boxes, soy
ink printing, and recycled and recyclable packaging that is sourced locally.
The report is organized into six sections that cover the entire sphere of
our activity from agriculture and business operations to customers and
community. This year we also created a special appendix section that charts the
key sustainability metrics that we track and report to the Food Trade Sustainability
Leadership Association (FTSLA).
You can download the entire
report, or separately download the summary, the individual sections that
deal with the sustainability of different aspects of our business, and the FTSLA
Metrics appendix. |
