Origin: The tree is widespread throughout North America, particularly Canada and the northern United States.
Botanical Description: A tall evergreen tree with a characteristic pyramidal shape up to 20-meters (60 ft) high. Has a tapering trunk with numerous branches.
Method of Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the needles and twigs. The oil is colorless to pale yellow mobile liquid. Yield 2 to 3%.
Aroma Profile: Balsam Fir Needle has an oily, sweet and balsamic top note. The middle note is sweet, balsamic and resinous, and the dry out note is faintly sweet and balsamic.
Major Constituents: á-pinene, β-pinene, bornyl acetate, á-phellandrene
