The aroma of Citronella "Java-type" is sweet/lemony, grassy and fresh.
Common Name: Citronella "Java-Type"
Form: Essential Oil
Family: Poaceae (Graminae).
Synonyms: Andropogon nardus; de Jong; maha pengiri; serai; miyah serai.
Origin: Native to central Nepal, now cultivated in the tropics, especially in Indonesia, Guatemala, Vietnam, Africa, Argentina, Haiti, China and India.
Botanical Description: Tufted, aromatic perennial grasses, with long narrow leaves and numerous stems arising from short, rhizomatous roots.
Method of Extraction: Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh, partially dried grass and is a colorless to very pale yellow mobile liquid. Yield 0.5 to 1.4%.
Aroma Profile: The top note of Citronella is fresh, grassy and lemon/like. The middle note is rich, citrol and grassy. The dry out note is faintly grassy and lemon-like.
Major Constituents: Citronellal up to 50%, citronellol up to 20%, geraniol up to 45%, nerol.
Common Adulterants: Synthetic geraniol.
Regulatory Status: GRAS 182.20

Blends Well With: Geranium, bergamot, lemon, orange, cedarwood, pine, jasmine.
Safety Data: Non-toxic, non-irritant. Mild skin irritant. Avoid during pregnancy.
