Clay powders are natural geologic mixtures of ores and minerals that form from decomposed rock. They're made up of microscopic plate like particles that form a luxuriously slippery texture when water is added. The fine texture of clay minerals absorbs oil and impurities while providing a gentle exfoliation on a microscopic level. Though it seems counter-intuitive, the mud-like consistency of wet clay provides cleansing, clarifying, deodorizing and renewing benefits in body care applications.
French White and Kaolin Clays
These clays are absorbent and drawing. They are the best choices for dry and sensitive skin due to their very mild and gentle cleansing and exfoliating action. Because of their mildness, and the fact that they are white and non-staining to fabric, they are also the best choices for leave-on body care applications such as body powder, deodorant and dry shampoo.
Bentonite clay is absorbent and draws impurities. A good, multi-functional, basic clay to use for an occasional, (weekly) mask, scrub or bath. Due to it's light color and mild absorbency, it is also a functional choice for leave-on body powders, deodorant and dry shampoo.
French Green Clay
This clay is mined from ancient sea deposits that were laid down millennia ago when the Earth's environment was pristine. The green color is due to the presence of beneficial iron oxide and kelp particles. French green clay has activating properties. It is absorbent and drying in powder form. Mixed with water in a mud mask, it is cleansing, clarifying and absorbing. This purifying clay is a good choice for oily to combination skin, or skin that is stressed from makeup use and environmental pollutants.
French Red Clay
For very oily, congested skin. Powerful detoxification, cleansing and clarifying. Mildly tingling. Energizes the complexion. Rich in iron and minerals, French red clay will stain fabric, and has the potential to leave a temporary, rosy glow to the skin after application.
