If you don't like the scent of citronella, you can substitute lemon eucalyptus in recipes, including candles and lamp oils. Below are all-natural formulas featuring lemon eucalyptus for a lotion, a body mist (for easiest overall application) and a patio spray.

Outdoor Lotion
1 cup Sweet Almond or Apricot Kernel Oil
3/4 ounce (or about 22 grams) beeswax
1 cup lukewarm water-based liquids like green tea, hydrosol, rainwater or aloe juice
28 drops Lemon Eucalyptus
6 drops Lavender
4 drops Grapefruit
2 drops Geranium

Add beeswax to oil in a Pyrex cup or bowl. Place in a hot water bath. Heat until melted. Place the water in a blender. Allow the oil/wax mixture to cool. When the temperatures of the oil and water are comparable, turn on the blender and add the oil in a thin stream. Blend until a cream develops. Blend in the essential oils and store in a jar in the refrigerator.
A pinch of Sodium Borate (Borax) dissolved in the water prior to blending will help emulsify the mixture and prevent separation.

Summer Body Mist
4 ounces water-based liquid such as green tea, hydrosol, rainwater or aloe juice
1 teaspoon plain vinegar or herb-infused vinegar (lavender, rose, peppermint, etc.)
28 drops Lemon Eucalyptus
6 drops Lavender
4 drops Grapefruit
2 drops Geranium

Place vinegar in a spray-mister bottle. Add the essential oils and shake. Add water, cap and mist clothes and skin. Always shake well before use. Avoid eyes and sensitive areas.

Patio Spray
4 ounces Distilled Water
1 teaspoon grain alcohol or high-proof vodka
20 drops Lemon Eucalyptus
10 drops Citronella
5 drops Grapefruit
5 drops Red Cedarwood or Texas Cedarwood

Place alcohol in a spray-mister bottle. Add the essential oils and shake. Add water, cap and mist the atmosphere around your outdoor activities. Always shake well before use. Avoid spraying the skin, clothing or garden plants.

Safety Notes: Essential oils are very concentrated and should be handled with care, following all label warnings and cautions. Keep oils out of eyes, ears and mucous membranes. Don't put undiluted oils on skin—those with sensitive skin should test diluted oils by applying small amount to inner arm. Stop using oil immediately if redness, burning, itching or irritation occurs. Keep oils tightly closed and out of the reach of children.

Aura Cacia's essential oils are all 100% pure and natural. They are carefully screened with a battery of tests, including gas chromatography, to ensure the highest quality available.
