Foot Work with Essential Oils

Fall has begun. The Autumnal Equinox marks the beginning of this season of change with a time of perfect balance; it’s not too hot, not too cold, and the days and nights are the same length. This brief moment of cosmic equilibrium between the seasons is a great time to foster a sense of healthy balance in our own lives. The hectic holiday period and a winter filled with short days and long nights will soon be upon us, threatening to throw everything out of whack. Take advantage of fall’s seasonal shift to use essential oils and aromatherapy in centering, balancing applications before winter sets in.

ESSENTIAL OIL OF THE MONTH

Rosemary

Rosemary essential oilBracing, fresh, herbaceous and foresty, rosemary is a powerfully purifying essential oil. The dried herb was once burned as an air-cleansing incense in hospitals and sick rooms. Rosemary owes its fresh aroma to the constituent cineole, which is also present in eucalyptus essential oil. Rosemary offers many of the same benefits as eucalyptus, but with a slightly more refined, herbal aroma that blends well with other herbal oils such as lavender and clary sage.

Quick Tips for using purifying rosemary essential oil:

  • Add 12 drops to ¼ cup baking soda and a few drops of water. Use as a tub and tile scrub.
  • Sprinkle several drops into smelly sink drains or the garbage disposal.
  • Sprinkle on a cotton ball, place in a glass jar, and poke holes in the lid to create a room diffuser.
