April is Earth Day month and a good time to note that Aura Cacia has a nice selection of sustainably sourced essential oil products as well as programs in place that support the small farmers and communities that produce our products around the globe. A few recent highlights:

• Our organic argan oil comes from a women’s cooperative in Morocco.
• A certified Well Earth supplier in Madagascar provides our organic ylang ylang oil.
• We support small scale farmers of organic patchouli in Indonesia and vetiver in Madagascar.
• Our sandalwood oil is sustainably produced by our certified Well Earth supplier in Australia.
• We are helping to fund the digging of 49 water wells in 38 vanilla-growing communities in Madagascar.
• We set aside 1% of sales of all our organic oils to support farmers and communities that produce our oils. (These funds recently helped to build a school in Ambohimena, Madagascar.)

Vanilla & Sweet Orange Sugar Scrub

Granules of sugar suspended in an apricot oil base gently slough off dead skin, leaving a healthy, glowing sheen.

1 cup raw, unrefined sugar granules
¼ cup sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon Aura Cacia Vanilla Precious Essentials oil (in jojoba oil)
12 drops sweet orange

Directions: Mix ingredients in a bowl. Gently buff over skin in circular motions. Rinse off in shower.

Organic Ylang Ylang Mineral Bath

Here’s a luxurious, body-soothing bath salt. Cleansing grapefruit and calming organic ylang ylang combine to create a balancing soak.

½ cup Epsom salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
3 tablespoons sea salt
3 drops organic ylang ylang III essential oil
9 drops grapefruit essential oil

Directions: Combine ingredients and add to bathwater.

Argan Facial Hydration Mist

Organic argan oil and toning rose oil make a refreshing facial spray.

1 teaspoon organic argan oil
4 ounces water
24 drops Aura Cacia Rose Otto Precious Essentials oil (in jojoba oil)

Directions: Mix ingredients in a spray mister bottle. Shake contents vigorously, and lightly mist face and neck.

ESSENTIAL OIL OF THE MONTH

MYRTLE

A fresh and foresty, purifying essential oil that you may not be familiar with is myrtle. Distilled from the leaves and twigs of a Mediterranean shrub, myrtle oil is activating and soothing. It encourages energy flow and is a good addition to an after-workout massage application. Myrtle has a camphor-like, sweet, herbal aroma similar to fresh eucalyptus leaves. It blends well with citrus oils and lavender.

Quick Tips for using purifying myrtle essential oil:

• Add 12 drops and ¼ cup baking soda to sanitize and deodorize clothes washer.
• Sprinkle into sinks and garbage disposal.
• Sprinkle on a cloth and wipe down garbage cans and waste baskets.
• Diffuse to clear stale air.
• Apply to paper towel and wipe down door handles.

Soothing Mrytle Massage Oil
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
6 drops myrtle oil
3 drops lavender oil

Mix ingredients. Apply during massage.

Air-Purifying Mrytle & Citrus Mist
4 ounces bottled or distilled water
12 drops myrtle oil
6 drops sweet orange oil
6 drops lemon oil
small spray bottle or atomizer

Place ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake vigorously before spraying room airspace.
